MALAWI: Media Forms Population and Development Network
The Daily Times reported on 12 April on the launch of the Media Network on Population and Development (MENPODE), which aims to highlight the issues of maternal health, HIV/AIDS and gender and how they impact the country’s development. UNFPA communications officer Pilrane Simu Banda said the organization would assist with training opportunities, local and international media trips and material on emerging issues in population and development.
URUGUAY: Emigration A Top Demographic Concern
IPS reported on 12 April that the emigration of youth, aging, internal transfers and high birth only in the most vulnerable sectors are the major demographic problems in Uruguay, according to a survey of leaders from different areas. TURKEY: Imams To Become Women’s Rights Activists Across The Country
Today’s Zaman reported on 12 April that Imams will join the fight against domestic violence after the signing of a protocol envisaging cooperation between two state ministries. SPAIN/HAITÍ: Emergency Funds Pledged For Haiti Have Been Disbursed “Almost Entirely”
Ecodiario reported 12 April that Secretary of State for Cooperation, Soraya Rodriguez, said that emergency funds committed by Spain after the earthquake which hit Haiti three months ago, have "almost all" been spent and she thanked the "example of solidarity " shown by Spanish society.
