LATIN AMERICA: Census Taker Training Is Essential for Real Results

NEPAL: UN Provides $9.3 Mln in Support to Nepal

PTI reported on 18 May that the United Nations has granted $9.3 million as assistance to Nepal to rehabilitate around 4,000 former Maoist combatants through various programmes in the country. KENYA: Fighting the Misery of Fistula

FIJI: 20 Midwives for Hospital

The Fiji Times reported on 18 May that 20 midwives and staff nurses are expected to be engaged by the Ministry of Health to help out in the maternity ward of the CWM Hospital. This submission was made to Health Permanent Secretary Dr Sala Saketa after the increase in deliveries at the maternity unit this year. Mr Tora said last year some measures were taken to ensure that the pressure on maternity ward staff was relieved. He said 12 retired midwives were hired to help out in the ward while the ministry had allowed the use of birthing unit at the labour ward operation theatre as routine delivery units. "The implementation of our CWMH midwifery attachment for nurses and midwives in the rural facilities had been planned from late 2009 with the support of WHO and UNFPA funding and it would help the staff too," he said.
