YEMEN: YFCA Director Discusses Contributions

26 September reported on 31 May that the interim Executive Director of the Yemeni Family Care Association (YFCA), Mohammed Al-Ashwal, discussed YFCA’s contributions in the areas of family planning and providing care of the families. He added that the most important things provided by YFCA are reproductive health services, family planning, and maternity care, as well as providing care for pregnant women and children. INDIA: Early Marriage Increases Risk of Maternal Deaths

COTE D’IVOIRE: FGM/C Campaign Makes Slow Progress

IRIN reported on 31 May that progress on the "Zero Tolerance" national campaign  to eliminate female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C) in Cote D’Ivoire has been slowed down by health and education infrastructure. Since the campaign began, 180 villages in the Marandallah prefecture, in the north-central Worodougou region, have abandoned the practice of FGM/C. The Ministry for Family, Women and Social Affairs is at the forefront of the campaign, which is backed by UNIFEM, UNICEF and UNFPA. Read: IRIN
