INDIA: Sindh to Appoint Ulema as Social Mobilizers

The Business Recorder reported on 9 October that the local government of Sindh has decided to appoint scholars of Islamic law, known as ulemas, as social mobilizers to create public awareness on population welfare programmes, and other schemes for mother and child health care. In a seminar organized by the local government, in collaboration with UNFPA, Bashir Mangi, Director General of Sindh’s Population Welfare Department, informed that 9 districts in Pakistan have been identified for the implementation of scheme where ulemas would be chosen to make the people aware of population welfare programmes. Mangi also informed that department is planning to bring out and include the book "Population Welfare Programme and Islam" in the syllabus of religious schools or madrasas. SUDAN: UNFPA, Government Develop Reproductive Health Contingency Plan

Sudan Tribune reported on 9 October that a draft contingency plan that seeks to address sexual and reproductive health issues in Southern Sudan has been adopted. The plan was adopted after a five-day training on a Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for sexual and reproductive health organized by UNFPA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
