GUINEA-CONAKRY: UNFPA Organizes Gender-Based Violence Awareness Week

Guinéenews and Guinée24 reported on 19 January that UNFPA has organized the awareness week “Women and Hope,” to sensitize the public on gender-based violence (GBV) in partnership with the “Centre Culturel Franco Guinéen (CCFG)” from 18-21 in Conakry, within the framework of its support to the government's promotion of gender equality. It is a week of information, education and awareness towards the government, bilateral and multilateral partners, civil society, the private sector and the public. The activities include a film series on GBV in different cultures, a conference about “violence and tradition” held by Hadja Mariama Djelo Barry (doctor and president of a gender association in Conakry), a competition for the best GBV story that gives the opportunity to young Guineans to show their talent as writers and a cocktail reception, that will feature the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Guinea, Antony Ohemeng-Boamah, to launch the photo exposition named “Women and Hope,” produced by the international photographer Angel López Soto for UNFPA-Guinea.
