URUGUAY: Melinda Gates Promotes Family Planning
El País reported on 22 July that Melinda Gates is promoting family planning worldwide. In spite of some criticism by the Catholic Church, to which she belongs, Gates believes that access to family planning is essential to cope with development challenges. The article mentions the recent summit on family planning, celebrated in London, organized jointly by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the UK government and UNFPA. The initiative is part of an unprecedented effort to render contraceptive accessible and provide health information and services to more than 120 million women and girls in the poorest countries of the world until 2020.
