BELARUS: Elderly Hold Top Positions

Zautra.by, Mogilev.by, Open.by, Rabota.by and Салiдарнасць reported on 1-4 October that elder people hold a majority of positions in Belarusian government and many other leadership posts. Journalists are investigating the most attractive professional spheres for this part of the population. Tatyana Haplichnik, UNFPA programme analyst, in her interview said that society should take account of the knowledge and skills of elder people. She mentioned the practice in Western Europe, where elder people participate in charity and contribute to society, leading them to feel self-assured and satisfied with their life.
