UGANDA: Community Volunteers Urge Fewer Children
The Inter Press Service on 29 June reported on the success of voluntary health teams (VHTs) in Uganda. "Three years ago, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Ugandan Ministry of Health and the Kanungu District Local Government, created the teams. UNFPA funds 95 percent of family planning services in this East African nation, while the government provides the remainder." Such teams educate on family planning methods and encourage their use.
