BELARUS: Majority of Women in Rural Areas are Older

Belapan on 15 October described ageing in Belarus and the fact that it is more pronounced in rural areas. "Statistics on rural women of Belarus are a reflection of trends that are taking place around the world. For example, many countries have recognized that more educate people put off marriage and having children to a later date and are more active in economic terms," commented the coordinator of UNFPA in Belarus Tatiana Haplichnik. UNFPA projects that by 2050, 70% of the population will live in cities, and the rural population from 2005 to 2030 will be reduced by 28 million. Read in Russian: Belapan
