MYANMAR: Census Imperative

The Myanmar Times reported on 21 December that, according to UNFPA Representative  Mr. Mohamed Abdel-Ahad, “There’s a dire need to conduct a census in Myanmar in a timely manner... This data is crucial to the development and monitoring of national plans. It provides up-to-date and accurate data about the size, distribution and characteristics of the population and its dynamics such as migration, urbanisation and aging.” The last official census took place in 1983.
