KYRGYZSTAN: Taking a Stand Against Early Marriage

12news.uz on 23 February reported that public organizations in Kyrgyzstan are working to prevent early marriages, which deprive girls of childhood, legal rights, and sometimes pose a threat to their health. The marriageable age in Kyrgyzstan is defined as 18 (17 years, if she is pregnant or had a baby), but 12.2% of women are married before that age, according to the United Nations Population Fund.
