UKRAINE: Regional Workshop on Policy Responses to Population Ageing

Civicua.org on 4 September reported that the UNFPA Office in Ukraine and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs organized a sub-regional consultative and capacity building workshop in Kyiv, Ukraine on 17-19 September. The workshop is for government staff and NGO representatives from CIS sub-region on the policy and practice related aspects of the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), including the promotion of healthy and active longevity. Demographic ageing in Eastern European countries and, in particular CIS countries has become a priority issue for many governments in recent years. Longer life expectancy, low birth rates, high mortality exacerbated by economic migration of young people brought demographic ageing and related issues to the limelight challenging policy makers to come up with sound policy responses. The overall objectives are to strengthen national responses to population ageing by governments and civil society stakeholders ensuring older persons’ participation in policy making and implementation, and to encourage integration of healthy and active longevity promotion into ageing policies and programmes. The Ministry of Social Policy will provide organizational and programmatic inputs to the workshop. Read in Ukrainian: Civicua.org
