Various media outlets reported on 15 September that UNFPA Georgia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia, conducted a youth festival in Telavi. The festival promoted gender equality, healthy lifestyles and generated demand for sexual and reproductive health and rights education among young people.
The festival hosted more than 1,000 young people from the Kakheti region under the slogan “Equals for Equality.” Various sport and cultural events took place during the day, including basketball, football, arm-wrestling, table games, intellectual club, etc. During the festival dancers, singers and artists delivered relevant messages to the public while giving performances. The youth volunteers disseminated the IEC materials on the issues of gender equality, RH health and rights, HIV/AIDS, etc. Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Mr. Levan Kipiani, Telavi Governor Mr. Givi Metreveli, and UNFPA Georgia Assistant Representative Ms. Tamar Khomasuridze made the welcome speeches at the opening of the Festival.
