PAKISTAN: Some Laws Reinforce Gender Inequality

Right Vision News on 16 November reported that according to a UNFPA study, some Indian laws promote a preference for sons over daughters. Law excluding daughters and widows from inheriting land still exist while child marriage bans, pre-natal sex selection tests and dowries are barely enforced. UN Resident Coordinator Lise Grande is quoted saying, "This study is significant because it holds up a mirror to the laws that overtly or covertly fail to address discrimination or promote it."
