SOLOMON ISLANDS: South-South Collaboration for Non-Scalpel Vasectomy

Island Sun reported on 19 July that the Ministry of Health and Medical Services hosted four doctors from Fiji to take part in a training on the non-scalpel vasectomy method of family planning. The programme is supported by UNFPA. UNFPA Representative and Director of the Pacific Sub-Regional Office, Dirk Jena said, “So often when family planning and reproductive health issues are discussed, the initial reaction is that this is women’s business.” However, he pointed out, men have a role to play, and should be encouraged to share responsibility for family planning.
