VENEZUELA: State Will Increase Investment in Contraceptives During 2010
La Agencia Venezolana de Noticias (AVN) reported on 18 August that the national government increased its annual investment by 12 million Bolivares ($2.8 million) to a total of 21 million Bolivares ($4.9 million) for the purchase and distribution of contraceptive methods, in order to double the amount of care and access for the population, specifically adolescents, and to prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Contraceptive coverage increased by 30 per cent this year, with the acquisition of methods through UNFPA. Read in Spanish: AVN
