GUATEMALA: UNFPA Calls for Condemnation of Gender-Based Violence

Ameco Press and Cerigua reported on 26 August that Marcela Suazo, the UNFPA Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, participated in the opening of the first regional meeting on the access of women to justice in cases of gender-based violence, with an emphasis on sexual violence. Ms. Suazo declared that any form of violence against women must be condemned by the people or the state, in order to transform the treatment of gender-based violence from a problem that is only part of the private sphere to one that will lead to public outcry.
