BRAZIL: First UN Joint Office Opened in Salvador

Correio 24 Horas and Bahia em Foco and reported on 26 November that Salvador in Bahia has become the first State capital in Brazil to have a Joint UN Office, which was inaugurated by State Governor Jaques Wagner, Salvador Mayor Joao Henrique Carneiro and UN Resident Coordinator Jorge Chediek. The event was also attended by UNFPA Representative Harold Robinson; UNFPA is one of the five UN agencies sharing the new premises, located at the top of Lacerda Elevator building, located in the core of the historic district. The UN House will improve coordination among agencies and effectiveness of technical assistance programmes and projects developed in Bahia in partnership with State and Municipal governments, as well as civil society.
