FIJI: 12,000 Patients at Country’s Largest Hospital in 2010
Fiji Times reported on 3 January that the country’s largest hospital processed at least 10,000 to 12,000 admissions in 2010. Dr. James Fong, head of the obstetrics and gynaecology department, said the unit represented at least 40 per cent of all admissions at the hospital. He said that despite the heavy load, the unit had a good year and that the incidence rate of adverse events did not increase. "This is part and parcel of the Ministry of Health's initiative on the MDGs and is also the result of support from other agencies, such as the Fiji School of Medicine and UNFPA,” Fong added.
