MALAWI: Changing Women’s Lives after Fistula Repairs
The Malawi News reported on 22 January that UNFPA has worked for four years to address fistula in the country. It sponsors surgeons to perform fistula repairs while training doctors and other health providers to care for women with the condition. UNFPA Reproductive Health Officer Juliana Lunguzi discussed UNFPA’s work, which includes sponsoring fistula camps twice every year. Ms. Lunguzi noted that health worker attrition is a major challenge in the country’s health care system, with an impact on the availability of a broad range of services, including fistula care.
