BURUNDI: Workshop Aims to Improve Sensitization on Obstetric Fistula

Le Renouveau du Burundi reported on 23 May that the Burundian Association of the Midwives, in partnership with UNFPA, the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, organized a sensitization workshop on obstetric fistula in Ngozi province. The workshop addressed themes, including fistula prevention and care and the social reinstatement of fistula patients. The Officer in Charge of UNFPA’s Reproductive Health Programme, Yolande Magonyagi, said that among the causes of fistulas are women’s inability to access health care because they must ask for permission or money from their husbands.
