GHANA: Forum Held on Women and Parliamentary Representation

GNA reported on 29 September that Cate A. Bob-Milliar, Upper West Regional Director of Department of Women, has suggested a constitutional amendment to make it mandatory for women who died while in office as members of Parliament, or Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief executives to be replaced by women. She said the review should also consider a woman representative from each of the regions as an automatic member of parliament so that 10 seats could be secured for women as late President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did for women. The International Institute for Democratic and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and UNFPA sponsored the forum. Read: GNA
